Goals
After reaching a record high 7,231 participants in 2011, we continue to aim high for the 20th annual Alaska Run for Women! As the Run grows so too does the grant fund -- helping to support Alaska's women with breast cancer detection, outreach, education, awareness and research. Sign up and bring your friends and family along with you. Grab your sisters, mothers, daughters, co-workers, neighbors... you get the idea! This event is for every female in Alaska. You don't have to be a runner to come out and share the incredible camaraderie that happens each year when thousands of women come together in sisterhood.

Survivor / In Memory Back Tags
Be creative and design a back tag to wear proudly at the race to recognize a loved one who has survived breast cancer or in memory of someone who lost the battle. The cards are available at bib pick-up and on race day, or you can download one here!

Festivities
Celebrate with your sisters, family and friends before and after the race! Snow cones, Great Harvest bread, Kaladi coffee, water and other beverages, live music, and the awards ceremony honoring runners of all ages and breast cancer survivor competitors. Make a day of it!

Parking & Transportation **Free Shuttle**
Parking at the Sullivan Arena, Anchorage Football Stadium, and surrounding areas is very limited. We encourage carpooling.

Additional parking is available in the BP southwest parking lot (Benson Blvd. & New Seward Hwy.). Please observe the 10 MPH speed limit! Premier Alaska Tours will provide shuttle service from the BP lot to the Run and back from 6:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Arrive early!

Please be respectful of private homes and businesses -- do not use their parking areas.

Honorary Race Starters

Lupe Marroquin will start the 5-mile event! She has been part of the Alaska Run for Women since its beginning, and as a member of the race committee, she handles Ambience for the race and is responsible for the entertainment and colorful visuals associated with the course and stadium area. Her dedication to the race is simple, "I love what the Alaska Run for Women stands for and what it has accomplished to benefit women's health issues." Lupe is an accomplished athlete - runner, triathlete, cross country skier, randonee (back country) and alpine skier, cyclist and swimmer.  She has competed on the national level and is also a former Ironman triathlete. As a competitor, she has been a familiar face on the podium, often winning or placing in the top three of her age group. She has placed in the top 10 of the Gold Nugget Triathlon three times after turning 40! It is an honor to have her as an honorary starter and huge supporter of the Alaska Run for Women.

Jackie Purcell of Channel 2 News will start the 1-mile event! A hometown girl and graduate of Bartlett High School, Jackie has been Alaska's favorite weatherperson since 1990. She says, "It's a gratifying experience to work in a job you love, in a town you love, surrounded by people and scenery you love. Wow!" Reporting the weather keeps Jackie on her toes since Alaska presents some of the most challenging weather situations in the world. She hopes the weather is good on race day, otherwise, "... people won't want to see me!" We appreciate Jackie's involvement in community activities and are honored that she said yes to the Alaska Run for Women!

Survivor Recognition Events

1. Avoid the registration lines. Survivors may register and/or pick up their bibs and pink survivor hats at a special table set up on the infield on race day. Of course you may also do that at the University Center during bib pick up events before race day.

2. Group photo of all survivors! Please meet at 8:00 a.m. on race day by the finish line (under the big pink arch) for a group photo. Wear your new pink hat!

3. Chance to win a quilt! The Quilt Tree has donated a beautiful handmade quilt to be given to a breast cancer survivor through a random drawing. All participating breast cancer survivors are eligible to win. Drawing during awards ceremony.

Raffle
Raffle tickets are available on race day at the Merchandise Booth. Winners are announced at the Awards Ceremony.
