Survivor Recognition

The Alaska Run for Women and each and every participant of the event honor all of the breast cancer survivors for their strength, courage and determination!

Participants can indicate they are a breast cancer survivor during registration.

On race day, survivors can be easily recognized by their pink bibs and pink hats! All survivors receive a pink carnation at the finish line.

Survivor Recognition Events

  1. Avoid the registration lines. Survivors may register and/or pick up their bibs and pink survivor hats at a special table set up on the infield on race day. Of course you may also do that at any of the bib pick up events before race day.
  2. Wear a SURVIVOR badge of honor! Courtesy of Alaska Serigraphics, have “Survivor” printed on your AKRFW t-shirt at any Anchorage bib pick up event. Not available on Race Day.
  3. Murray Orthodontics is donating one case of Invisalign Therapy, valued at more than $8,500, to one courageous breast cancer survivor. If you are registered for the race, and will be wearing one of the pink survivor bibs, be sure to fill out an entry form at any of the Bib Pick Up Days. You will be asked to share a few sentences about why you want to receive Invisalign Treatment. If you write a few sentences then your entry will go into a drawing and The Murray Orthodontics Team will then pick one from the pile of entries. This special Invisalign donation is for Survivors only! 2019 WINNER: Janel Wright(*If Dr. Murray feels the winner is not a good candidate for Invisalign, traditional braces will be offered instead. Healthy smiles come first!).
  4. Group photo of all survivors! Please meet at 7:55 a.m. on race day by the finish line (under the big pink arch) for a group photo. Wear your new pink hat!

5. A special tent will be set up on the infield on race day so survivors and their support team have a place to gather and rest. Be sure you stop by to pick up your survivor gift bag!

6.  Chance to win a quilt! Seams Like Home has donated a beautiful handmade quilt to be given to a breast cancer survivor through a random drawing. All participating breast cancer survivors are eligible to win. Drawing during awards ceremony. 2019 WINNER: Angela Garroutte; 2018 WINNER: Shirley Keisor
