| I met Ann and Mara in a breast cancer support group in Portland in 2001. We became close friends in our battle with breast cancer. We shared laughs, dreams, and tears. Both Ann and Mara eventually succumbed to this deadly disease, but they left a lasting mark in my heart. Much of the work I do in oncology is a result of these and other incredible women I’ve met on this journey. Great advances are being made in detection and treatment and we are still losing too many. I run in our collective honor and with the hope of some day curing this disease. |
