Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 25. Her photo was on the front page of the ADN in 2010, bald and smiling. Her blog was called “kicking cancer’s ass”. We showed up on race day in pink tutus and walked one mile. (The year before Jess and I had run five miles). Since her diagnoses, Jess completed a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, worked in an eating disorders clinic, obtained her license as a professional counselor, sustained two pregnancies resulting in Emrie and Brielle, and established a thriving clinical practice in Anchorage. She saw clients until three months before she died, in 2020.
